The choice of imager

If you have decided to purchase a thermal imager, you should buy a device whose characteristics best match the application. Therefore, we consider the technical data of the device to know which characteristics of the imager will be key in a specific scope, and which are secondary.


The upper range of measured temperatures

If you do not require shooting objects of high temperature (over 250°C), it is recommended to purchase thermal imagers, designed for:


• Video of buildings in malfunction of building envelopes, ventilation and air conditioning systems;

• Survey equipment;

• Diagnostics of power facilities and other purposes.


For these operations, enough to buy the upper boundary not exceeding 250°C.


Note and tasks that are not subject to the devices in this range:

• Diagnosis of thermal insulation of steam lines, furnaces, boilers and other high temperature engineering systems. This will require the devices, the upper limit temperature is 600-1000°C;

Additional lenses

To obtain high resolution images of small objects, the shooting of which started a large distance, you will need telescopic lenses. It can be shooting the insulators of the transmission line or the upper floors of tall town houses. When the use of such lenses increases the working distance angular field of view decreases.


If you are shooting an extended object with a small distance, wide-angle lenses are used. Here it is the opposite: the working distance decreases, the field of view increases.

The size of the matrix


The clarity of the resulting images depends on the number of sensitive matrix elements. Typically, the minimum size of the matrix of thermal imaging equipment is regulated by normative acts in this field.
